Music at First Pres

First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales has musical groups for all ages and you are invited to participate. These choirs are open to anyone interested, and are not limited to members of First Pres, so please invite your friends and neighbors to join as well! Musical Beginnings with Donna Geils
Ages: infants through age 3
Monday 4:00-4:45 pm
Location: Children’s Chapel (rm. 160)

Sing, dance and play with your little ones in this introduction to music appreciation, music skills, movement, and music literacy. We focus on developing excellent listening skills, creative use of body and instruments, rhythm, tonality, and cooperative music making. Be prepared to hop like a frog and flap your wings like an eagle – this class gets you moving! Parental involvement required.

Covenant Kids with Vince Treadway
Ages: 4-6
Monday 4:00-4:45 PM
Location: Handbell Room (rm. 200)

Children will learn hymns, songs, spiritual songs, folk music from around the world, learn basic vocal and music reading skills, enjoy movement and playing instruments, be introduced to musical instruments, and have interviews with “Arnold.” They will learn basics of diction, breath control, posture, and poise.

The King’s Singers with Vince Treadway
Ages: 7-12
Wednesday 5:00-6:00 pm
Location: Choir Rehearsal Room

Students will learn vocal technique, music reading skills, posture and poise, diction, anthems, hymns, folk music and more. Students will participate in worship on occasion, and will enjoy musical games and earn points for prizes. They will also work toward medals indicating different levels of musical achievement and skill.

Handbell Choir
Monday 5:00-6:00 pm
Location: Handbell Room (rm. 200)

High School students and adults are welcome to join this volunteer handbell choir that provides music for worship, special services, and concerts throughout the season. Ringers must be able to read music. Please contact Vince Treadway to schedule a friendly audition.

Chancel Choir
Wednesday 7:30-9:00 pm
Location: Choir Rehearsal Room

High School students and adults are welcome to join this volunteer choir that leads the congregation in worship and provides special services and concerts throughout the season as well. Choir members must make a profession of faith in Christ as Lord and Savior and be able to carry a tune. Excellent music reading skills are not required.

Canti di Gioia
Wednesday 6:30-7:30 p.m.
August through May
Location: Choir Rehearsal Room

Canti di Gioia is a small, select, auditioned, chorus for adults who desire a more challenging musical experience. Repertoire will include a wide variety of music from many different genres and time periods. Canti di Gioia will sing in worship and in concert. To audition please contact Vince Treadway at the church.

21st Century
Age Range: Middle School & up
First/Third Sundays 5:00pm-6:00
Location: Sanctuary Chancel

21st Century is an ensemble of vocalists and instrumentalists who use their musical gifts to lead the 21st century songs used in our worship. Singers need to be able to sing parts and read music; instrumentalists need to be able to improvise.
