Camp Joy

Camp JoyCamp Joy is a part of Christian Education Ministries, an agency of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. We believe that all people are made in the image of God, uniquely created by Him with value and purpose. Camp Joy specifically ministers to those who have an intellectual disability. Campers must be at least 13 years old and have self-help skills. One of Camp Joy’s greatest assets is our tradition in special friends. Camp Joy is designed to have a one-on-one camper to counselor ratio; this pair of special friends spends the entire week together building a loving and lasting friendship. The staff is experienced in working with all different levels of ability and age. Download the latest brochure here.

Each camper has the opportunity to participate in all activities that are adapted to meet the special abilities of each individual. By bringing out each camper’s unique talents, all campers and counselors will be able to appreciate how their different gifts complement one another. The JOY of Camp Joy is experiencing God using all of His children to feel His love.

Camp Joy is funded by camper fees and contributions. Because of many generous donations, we are able to accommodate and bless more campers.

Camp Joy History

Camp Joy is a Christian co-ed camp serving people with special needs. In 1980, Ann Brice and Frances Sanders established Camp Joy at Bonclarken Conference Center in Flat Rock, North Carolina. God has blessed Camp Joy and increased its work, and in 2010 Camp Joy was brought to Florida. From that first session in North Carolina with 13 counselors and 9 campers, we have grown to 6 sessions, in multiple states, serving hundreds of campers, counselors, and staff members.
