Witness Relocation Blog – Day 7

I came to cast fire on the earth, and would that it were already kindled! I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how great is my distress until it is accomplished! Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. For from now on in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.

Luke 12:49-53

Today was a long day of travel. We were either in a car, airport, or airplane for much of the day. This is the third leg of our trip. We are visiting some of our brothers and sisters in another city.

The lasting impression from the day was the time of fellowship we enjoyed this evening with a small group of believers. Though we were relatively few, the time together with the Lord was precious to us and glorifying to Him. The singing and prayers were so heartfelt and the fellowship was so sweet that I was nearly moved to tears on an occasion or two.

I shared a message from Luke 12:49-53 seeking to encourage these believers despite the fact that they know all to well the separation that the Gospel brings between them and their families and friends who are antagonistic to the Gospel. I sought to assure them that though the Gospel sometimes divides us from people in our lives, it unites us with God through His Son Jesus Christ. Peace has been made for us by His blood and our union with Him is a bond stronger than any other. A couple of young adults in the group shared their personal experiences along these lines. We prayed for them and their family members who do not believe in Jesus, that they would come to faith in Christ and know His grace for themselves.

Please pray for these new friends, asking the Lord to grant them the strength that they need, by His grace, to live boldly for Him. Pray that the fire of the Gospel, which was kindled by Christ through His incarnation, life, death, resurrection, and ascension, and has been cast through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, would continue to spread throughout the world, especially in this region.
