As most of you know, Laney and I are in the process of adopting a little girl from Ethiopia. That process began for us more than three years ago with late night talks and prayer. Those discussions with God and each other coalesced into an application in May 2010 with the America World Adoption Agency. After some ups and downs throughout the paper chase process we were accepted in full into AWAA’s Ethiopia program on March 18, 2011. At the time that we sent our dossier (a paper file with every bit of personal information about Laney, me, our boys, and even some of you!) we were operating under the assumption that we would receive a referral for a child in 7-11 months time. In other words, about this time of year. That initial schedule changed when Ethiopia’s Ministry of Women Children and Youth Affairs (MOWCYA) slowed their process down. The latest projections tell us that we should receive a referral for our daughter 12-18 months after our dossier submission (March 18, 2011). That means the earliest we could hear something is March 2012. This is not a firm schedule by any means and is always subject to change.
We continue to wait patiently, trusting that the Lord knows exactly the little girl whom He is going to bring into our family. We continue to covet your prayers as we wait. There are more than a few families in our own church who are prayerfully considering adoption as the Lord’s will for them, others who have applied and are waiting to be matched with an orphaned child, and those who have previously adopted and are raising their son/daughter/children by the grace of God. We encourage you to pray not only for us but for all of these families who are somewhere along the path in their own journeys of, toward, and in adoption.
